This is the "recommend other RPGs because they are good" thread. Recommend something and what makes it good. I recommend:
Chrono Trigger (tech system, boss fights, when you can get items and stuff) Golden Sun (Balancing class with summoning and magic) Megaman X: Command Mission (The whole speed and turn thing is wonky and it was interesting to play with it) Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (combo attacks, and dodging ALL damage by pressing a button at the right time is awesome) Pokemon: any (Yeah, I know. You say it's a kid's game. Look at EV's, IV's, and base stats and it's very well built and planed. the creators also set up trainer battles/encounters really well to pull this off.) Mother series: (I only played Mother 3, but wonky things happened in the middle of battle and the HP slowly draining was good for the player)
So, if you've got a game you like and it's pretty good, post it here.

Considering my main system is the DS, and the main type of games I play on that are RPGs, I'll just stick to the very best.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia All good for their own reasons, but this series rarely dissapoints
Final Fantasy III and IV Cecil was one of the most awesome protagonists in FF games, and the re-ported, never properly Anglicized release deal with FF3 makes the DS versions all the more welcome
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Grimoire of the Rift Final Fantasy Tactical RPG. 'Nuff said
Luminous Arc 1+2 I picked this up waiting for FFTA2 on DS, and it more than capably tided me over. Well done tactical RPG and story
The World Ends With You Totally unique story, fun battle system using touch screen and button combos on two different screens
Honorable Mention Shin Megami Tensei Devils Survivor Soma Bringer Just started playing these two, not far enough to determine much. I'm farther in SMTDS, and it has a lot of promise
Time Hollow Lux-Pain Both really different ideas on using the touch screen, and a good story and cast of characters to back it up, but for some reason I didn't think it had much replay value. Worth a play, but I'd playtest before shelling out $20-30 if I were you

I waited far too long to reply to this.
Zelda? Hello? Ocarina of Time is teh crap. Twilight Princess is actually better, imo.
Final Fantasy VI was by far the best, followed by X.
Kingdom Hearts 2 and Chain of Memories also.
You silly people and you japanese RPGs. Western is where it's at.
Elder Scrolls Series. Morrowind is the best, followed closely by Oblivion.
Anything Fallout.
KotOR! Two was better.
Mass Effect! Two was again better.
Dragon Age: Origins is epic and amazingly excellent.
The Fable games are good, with Two AGAIN being better.
As much as I hate to say it... WoW ruled my life for about a year. It's not popular for no reason.
Diablo is GREAT, and Torchlight is BETTER. Now if they could just get some multiplayer support...
