My original idea in its (barely) unedited form: Hold onto your hats! This here's a long one. Here's what I want to do. Create a set of rules for a sort of alternate reality game, where all the players are the leaders of a nation, and one player is in a DM-like Judge role, where he will arbitrate dealings and make rulings and such. Every player creates a persona and nation to rule as they see fit. The ruling style can be whatever they like, but more centric-style governments (monarchies, empires, etc) will obviously foment more unrest if the leader is disliked. The nations will be ranked on several levels including GDP, happiness, average income, literacy level, and life expectancy. Players can issue commands such as taxation, military mobilization, detainment of dissenters, etc, and the result will have effects on the nation's status, its summary (a general summation of events written by either the Judge or the leader), and its rankings. The goal of the game is to control the other countries, either militarily, culturally, or by economically. Players are free to form alliances as they see fit, but the Judge will set existing conditions at the beginning of the game that affects the nations' existing diplomacy. I don't really have a name for the game yet, but we could convene on it. This game would be run either through a dedicated forum we set up for the sole purpose of the game, or through email, and physically talking to other players. Players do not have to say who they really are however. Deal must be formed multilaterally. All parties making a deal must notify the judge of the deal, and the judge will make notes of it. Any deal not given to the judge will be considered invalid. The Judge may communicate deals marked PUBLIC OVERT with all the players. PRIVATE COVERT is kept secret. Unmarked is considered public overt. Thoughts?
